Privacy Policy
Overview
Parcer is a receipt-parsing service that creates split, categorized transactions in your budgeting tool (currently YNAB). We are committed to transparency about what data we access, how we use it, and what we store.
The short version: we store as little as possible. We do not store your receipts, transactions, budget data, or category mappings. We access your budget data only to process your receipts and write the results back to your account.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you connect your YNAB account to Parcer via OAuth, we store:
- OAuth tokens (access token and refresh token) to maintain your connection to YNAB. These are encrypted at rest.
- Default budget ID and account ID — your selected preferences for where Parcer should create transactions.
That is the extent of what we persist. We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal information unless you provide it voluntarily (e.g., signing up for our beta waitlist).
Data We Access But Do Not Store
When you submit a receipt, Parcer temporarily accesses the following from your YNAB account in order to process the receipt:
- Recent transactions for the relevant merchant (typically the last 3–5 transactions), used to understand how you categorize items from that merchant.
- Budget categories, used to map receipt line items to your existing category structure.
This data is held in memory only for the duration of the request and is not written to disk, logged, or retained after the request completes.
Receipt Data
When you upload a receipt photo or forward a receipt email, the receipt content is:
- Sent to the Anthropic API (Claude) for parsing and categorization. Anthropic's API does not use customer inputs for model training. See Anthropic's privacy policy for details.
- Processed in memory to extract line items, quantities, and pricing.
- Not stored by Parcer. Receipt images and parsed data are discarded after the transaction splits are created in your budget tool.
Beta Waitlist
If you sign up for our beta waitlist, we collect your email address for the sole purpose of notifying you about beta access. We do not sell or share waitlist emails with third parties.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above for the following purposes only:
- To authenticate with YNAB on your behalf using stored OAuth tokens.
- To read recent transactions from your YNAB account in order to infer category mappings for receipt items.
- To create split transactions in your YNAB account based on parsed receipt data.
- To refresh your access token automatically so you do not need to re-authorize frequently.
We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any purpose other than providing the Parcer service.
Third-Party Services
Parcer relies on the following third-party services:
- YNAB (You Need A Budget): We connect to YNAB via their official API to read transaction and category data and to create split transactions. We follow the YNAB API Terms of Service. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by YNAB.
- Anthropic (Claude API): Receipt images and text are sent to Anthropic's API for parsing. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train models. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Fly.io: Our backend infrastructure is hosted on Fly.io. See Fly.io's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare: Our landing page and DNS are served through Cloudflare. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Data Security
- OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest in our database.
- All communication between your browser, our servers, YNAB, and Anthropic occurs over HTTPS/TLS.
- We do not store your YNAB password or any financial institution credentials.
- Receipt images are processed in memory and never written to persistent storage.
Data Retention and Deletion
- OAuth tokens are retained as long as your account is active. If you revoke Parcer's access through YNAB's developer settings, the tokens become invalid.
- Preferences (default budget/account) are retained as long as your account is active.
- Receipts and transaction data are not retained at all.
- To request deletion of your account and all associated data, contact us at the address below. We will delete your record within 30 days.
Your Rights
- You may revoke Parcer's access to your YNAB account at any time through YNAB's Account Settings > Developer Settings.
- You may request deletion of your Parcer account and all stored data by contacting us.
- If you are located in the EU/EEA, you may have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data. Contact us to exercise these rights.
Children's Privacy
Parcer is not directed at anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the effective date. If we make material changes, we will notify users via email or a prominent notice on the site.
